Who We Are & What We Are About

The About Us tells a story of African Union Plus — its origins, core values, and vision for Africa and its people globally. It provides insight into the leadership, guiding philosophies, and the deep commitment to correcting the failures of the African Union through action-oriented, people-driven solutions.

Our Founding Story

African Union Plus was born out of deep frustration with the failures of the African Union to effectively represent, defend, and uplift the interests of African people. The movement emerged as a grassroots response to widespread disillusionment, particularly among youth and civil society, towards African leaders who are perceived to serve external powers rather than their own citizens. The founders of AU Plus, drawn from both the continent and the diaspora, came together with a bold vision: to build an alternative people-driven platform rooted in Pan-African action, where African voices guide the continent’s future and accountability is non-negotiable. AU Plus exists to restore hope, dignity, and unity by empowering Africans to lead themselves.

Mission, Vision & Values

Our mission is to catalyse a new era of African-led development, leadership, and unity by offering a credible alternative to the current African Union structure. We envision a liberated, self-determined Africa where political will, economic power, and cultural pride are centred in African hands. Our values are grounded in integrity, Pan-African solidarity, justice, independence, and collective empowerment. We reject neocolonial control, tribal division, and elite capture of institutions. Instead, we promote democratic accountability, indigenous solutions, and cross-border cooperation that genuinely reflects the will and welfare of Africa’s peoples. AU Plus is committed to unity without compromise on African sovereignty.

Unlike the bureaucratic and top-down nature of the traditional AU, African Union Plus operates through a bottom-up, action-oriented framework. We empower local communities, amplify grassroots voices, and connect diasporic Africans directly with continent-wide campaigns. Our model emphasises transparency, participatory leadership, and measurable outcomes—avoiding empty declarations and instead focusing on tangible, people-led initiatives. AU Plus uses digital platforms, local hubs, and a Pan-African network of activists, scholars, and organisers to decentralise power and rebuild trust in African unity. Our approach redefines leadership as service and accountability, not privilege and immunity.

Accountability & Transparency

AU Plus is governed through a participatory, decentralised model that upholds the highest standards of transparency and ethical accountability. Our financial operations, decision-making processes, and campaign metrics are openly documented and publicly accessible. A rotating Council of Representatives—drawn from member countries and diaspora communities—ensures no single region or elite group dominates the movement. Independent audits, open forums, and annual member reviews provide further checks and balances. We believe that to transform Africa, we must first model the change by making integrity the foundation of all we do.

In our FAQ section, we answer common questions such as: Is African Union Plus trying to replace the AU? (No, we are building a citizen-led alternative platform focused on accountability and Pan-African action.) Who funds AU Plus? (Our support comes from small donations, partnerships with ethical Pan-African organisations, and member contributions.) Is AU Plus open to non-Africans? (Our core mission serves Africans and people of African descent, but allies may support from outside.) How can I get involved? (Join as a member, volunteer, contribute expertise, or launch a local hub.) The FAQ ensures clarity, trust, and informed participation for all interested in the platform.
